The parts of speech are essential to sentence structure and the ability to understand a language. Having a clear understanding of how the different parts function and how they interact with each other is key to being able to teach a language. In English, this may be even more important, as there are many irregularities within the language and being able to determine regular parts of speech may be fundamental to a student's understanding. I have learned that some parts, like articles and pronouns, that are not thought about much by native speakers, may be difficult to explain to learners of English and extra care may be needed to teach certain intricacies of the language.
