This unit covered the three basic ways successful teachers use to teach a new language: teach vocabulary, introduce grammatical structures, and teach language functions. Furthermore, by employing the ESA method to teaching these lessons, students will be much more receptive and engaged throughout the lesson. Generally, lessons that focus on introducing new vocabulary and grammatical structures will use the \"straight arrow\" ESA approach, while lessons that focus on language function will employ the \"boomerang\" or \"patchwork\" approach. However, an effective teacher will consider all the different approaches and determine which approach is best for the specific lesson.
