Unit 14 introduces us to the use of course books, their advantages, disadvantages and how best to use them in a classroom situation, and also to the different types of materials that can be used to teach the students. There are two different types of materials than can be used, authentic materials such as magazines, newspapers, films, brochures and menus. The second of these materials are created materials and include things such as crosswords, word search puzzles and gap fill activities. This unit has taught me that course books are very useful but that they should be supplemented with other materials that engage the students and keep them interested for the whole class.
