Unit 11 focuses on how to teach receptive skills. The chapter starts by outlining what a receptive skill is, basically reading and listening. The skills in which you receive information. It talks about the two main types, either receiving information for a purpose, or entertainment. It then talks about different ways we read and listen such as scanning, skimming and to obtain detailed information. The chapter then talks about some common issues of students reading and listening and how to overcome them, such as pre-teaching vocabulary and being careful when selecting texts. Finally it gives some examples of exercises a teacher could give to boost students receptive skills.
