In this unit I learned anything a native speaker or teacher in that matter would hear or read can be described as authentic or reliable such as newspapers, songs, magazines, menus, etc. We use authentic materials for different purposes such as they are real and more interesting and motivating, students gain more confidence when they understand them, and they can be equipped to the interest of other group of students. Created materials are materials created by teachers as replacement materials from a course book. Course books are set of materials such as student's book, workbook, cassettes, teacher's book which gives y step guide. The advantages of a course book are it usually expected by the students, it is easier and less time consuming, provides security for students and teachers, provide mixture of grammar, vocabulary and skills work, it offers continuity and progression, it has been tried and test before, it is attractive and appealing, it offers good ideas for inexperienced teacher. The disadvantages of a course book however, are not always fit the needs and interest of the students, students may not like the book, use of a course book maybe boring and predictable for them, it can make teachers lazy, it is a compromise, may not cover enough depth language problems, it may be outdated and unattractive, and it dictate what to be taught. The best use of the course book are as follows. Look at a range it could be used for the students, do not use it for the whole lesson, when planning your lessons think where it can motivate tour students, think about the time it consumes, read the teachers book but also do a little digging of your own, don't base all your lessons in your course book and do not use it as the only solution to everything. The four different options for course book use are omit, replace, supplement and adapt. Omit certain irrelevant lesson from the course book. Replace it with similar appropriate materials.Supplement, add extra materials to the course book to reinforce teaching. Use same materials but in your own way and style. Analyzing a course book would consider many factors such as the prize, is it expensive or not, the availability of the book in local areas, is the design or book attractive, the methodology of the book used, is it an appropriate mix and balance of skills, is the level of the language difficult or not, is the language point correct, are the topics interesting, does it provide all the help the teachers need, and what materials are there.
