In this Unit, I learned about the two receptive learning skills: reading and listening. The unit introduced the different types of specialist skills necessary for reading and listening successfully, which included predictive reading/listening, scanning for specific information, skimming for general ideas, detailed reading for comprehensive understanding, and deducing implied meaning from context. Finally, the unit emphasized the importance of selecting texts with students' interests and skill levels in mind, as the selection of appropriate texts keeps students better engaged in and more motivated to understand the lesson material.
