This unit talked about the four past tenses: the past simple, the past continuous, the past perfect and the past perfect continuous. It made clear that the past perfect continuous is not frequently used, though we use it when talking about a continuing action in the past up until an action in the past. The past simple is used for completed past actions at a definite time. The past continuous is used for actions in progress at a time in the past. And the past perfect is used when talking about past actions in the past. This chapter made it very clear what the differences are between the past tenses. They are not easy to understand.
