This unit examined the four forms of the present tense: Simple, Continuous, Perfect and Perfect Continuous. As a native speaker a lot of these forms are intuitive to me, however the finer details and typical usage were not so obvious. Being able to analyse the language in a more technical sense and having a more intricate knowledge of these grammar forms will be useful in identifying, correcting and explaining difficulties that students may encounter. It's also interesting that the grammar patterns are quite simple. The difficulty then for the non-native speaker is in naturally identifying the correct form to use in each situation.
