Although all methodologies have some validity, it seems that no 'one' methodology is foolproof. I think for me it is more about knowing my students and what will work for them. I think the main point to remember is to try and engage all students as much as possible. Some students will no want to be as engaged as others, so as the teacher we need to find what works best to engage and help each individual student. I think the different types of instruction will also vary depending what is being taught, for example using PPP with being students to teach 'verbs is a good tool, but this would not be challenging enough for more advance ELL.
