I really liked the encouragement in this unit to find outside information and augment what was discussed throughout the unit sections. I did some additional research into PIaget and the stages of cognitive development. Interestingly, the stages have a division at 7-11 years, while our groups are divided into 5-9 and 9-13. So there's a split to keep in mind among the students as they begin to transition into upper G1 and lower G2 students, they will also be gaining (at different speeds) the ability to memorize information, become involved in outside subjects (as in a reading-to-learn scenario) and understand more complex abstract ideas.
