This unit explains various themes. The subject of intonation appears to be a nightmare. It seems a simple concept in theory but in practice it entirely depends on what particular nuance a person wishes to communicate. This will require a great deal more study before I would have any confidence in teaching it. The description of the stress on words and parts of words felt much more straightforward and easier to absorb. I particularly liked the study of the phonetic alphabet, the science of pronunciation and the articulation. There is a brief description in the unit of how to fit pronunciation into a lesson but I would have liked to see a complete ESA lesson plan on the topic.
