Unit 16 reviews the different types of conditional sentences and what situations each can reflect. This unit also goes over the necessary verb changes when reporting direct speech. Both sections provide suggestions of how these topics can be taught effectively in an EFL classroom. I had never considered specific tense changes when paraphrasing someone else's speech, so much of the reported speech section was new information, at least in the sense of being presented with a definite set of rules. Although I, as a native speaker, might not always speak strictly according to these rules, having clearly defined parameters is very helpful for teaching concepts to language learners.
