Regardless of the age of the learners, or the level of their English, there are four things that all students need to do in order to effectively learn new language; be exposed to it, understand its meaning, understand how it is constructed and be able to practise and reproduce it. I still do not understand the difference in spelling in British English compared to American English. In order to successfully teach new language, the teacher should focus on three things; teaching vocabulary, introducing grammatical structures and teaching language functions. None of these takes preference over the others, but should rather be merged, or combined into one macro teaching strategy.
