This unit covered conditional statements and direct/reported speech. Conditionals are used to show consequence and how consequences can be dependent on conditions. The conditionals contain an if phrase that is the condition and action/state phrase that is the consequence. There are five types of conditional statements that have their own forms and usages. Reported speech is the speech that is being reiterated to another party that hadn't heard the direct speech. This shift changes the speech, as it is usually reported after the fact. Other changes may be needed, as time expressions and pronouns may need to be modified when reported to maintain the message of the direct speech.
