This unit covered the teaching of the receptive skills of reading and listening. The unit shows how the skills of reading and listening are used based on the \"reason\" for the task. Ie why is the student reading or listening to the material. From there it goes into how the material is picked up by the person. Whether they are skimming, gathering detailed information or drawing a conclusion based on the headlines or other identifiers, the way the material is gathered leads to certain problems which unit helps to fix. By choosing interesting material at an understandable language level, students are more willing and able to learn and understand what they are reading and hearing.
