It's extremely important for students to feel that there is a structure to the class; preparation is key. Specifically, lessons should start with an \"Engage\" or warm-up stage and end with an \"Activate\" or cool-down stage. The warm-up should allow students to switch their brains into English mode by practicing what they have already learned; any new content should come only from the day's lesson. The cool-down should allow students to synthesize what they have just learned from the lesson with everything else they know and practice it with the rest of the class. Within this structure, however, there must be flexibility, as being too predictable will quickly bore the students.
