This was quite a short unit which covered the concept of testing and teachers motivations for conducting tests. This included the different types of tests and what their use is for teachers. There was also some discussion for the common types of external proficiency tests, such as TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS etc and what areas they focus on. The unit was interesting, but was too basic/general. I teach large classes (40 students) for an hour a week, so it is impractical to conduct regular progress tests which incorporate the four skills (i.e. a 2 minute spoken test would require two or more classes to conduct). More focus on testing and evaluation strategies would have been more useful.
