Unit 14 describes the use of course books and lesson materials in the classroom. There are two kinds of materials: authentic and created. Authentic materials are made by and oriented to native speakers, some examples of authentic materials are magazines, TV shows, music, brochures, etc. Since those materials are not designed for English learners, they need to be carefully selected. Created materials are made by the teacher, and are aimed at the students level. Flashcards, crosswords, picture stories are common created materials. The unit shows advantages and disadvantages of utilizing a course book, how and when it should be used in class, and the better way choose a course book.
