Unit eight introduced two productive skills: speaking and writing. When an instructor is teaching students to speak English, they will sometimes teach accuracy and other times will teach fluency. Accuracy focuses on correct pronunciation with teacher-led activities such as drilling and information-gap filling and the teacher will make frequent corrections. Fluency is more student-led and the teacher encourages the students to explore the language by practicing speaking amongst themselves. The teacher will listen and monitor but rarely correct unless the mistakes are repetitive or wide-spread amongst the students and require some type of either one on one or remedial training.
