This unit was about course books and how a teacher should use them to effectively teach. There are many positives for using course books: they provide structure, they have been tested, and they offer continuity and progression. All of which can be very beneficial to an inexperienced teacher. They do come with disadvantages as well: they may not be tailored to class needs, can be predictable if used too much, and if used exclusively can strip a teacher of their creative lesson planning. As such course books are to be used in conjunction with a teachers own class plan. Teachers also should modify course books by omitting, replacing, supplementing, and adapting parts when necessary.
