A teachers first priority should be the learning of the students. A teacher has many different roles in the classroom. These roles include managing, organizing, prompting, assessing, being a model, tutoring, facilitating, observing, as well as participating. There are many things that influence a student's success and motivation including age, background, and language level. Different difficulties come with different students depending on these factors. It is helpful and important to be aware and to consider all these factors that tie into the dynamic between the teacher and student. During this unit it has become even more apparent to me that being a teacher is a big responsibility that shouldn't be taken lightly. When teaching it is important to balance the lessons and keep them carried and interesting in order to promote motivation. Being a good teacher has a lot to do with understanding the individual. Observing the student and caring about their progress and individual needs is very important. It is crucial to involve everyone in the class during discussions. Another thing that really stuck out to me is the importance of letting students figure things out for themselves while helping by prompting and guiding them if they run into difficulty as opposed to simply correcting and stunting their growth. Its a very fine line. Above everything I've learnt how important it is to be sensitive to what is going on in the classroom and react compassionately and productively in order to stimulate growth and foster a productive environment.
