Although the teacher cannot control the effects of what happens outside of the class re their students, they can have a major impact on what happens inside the classroom by way of motivating and teaching students. Fun, well paced, motivating lessons that are not constantly corrected are lessons that move students forward. Beginner students can be seen in various forms. You can look at the term beginner as being; - those who know no English at all - those who have had previous lessons but no longer retain that information - the adult beginner student who has decided to learn English - the young student who picks up the language easier - the beginner student without Roman alphabet knowledge A constant throughout is the need to ensure English is spoken at all times, that the teacher does not revert to a student's native tongue, clear and simple instructions are given, lessons are paced well with lots of material in various forms will ensure productive lessons. Teaching children is different from teaching adults. Their innate curiosity can be a motivating factor for the teacher with their questions and thirst for knowledge. Teaching 1:1 can differ from teaching groups/classes. Teachers need to be well prepared as lessons can move a lot quicker without the mixed abilities of others but peer interaction and bouncing ideas off others is nevertheless absent.
