Teach English in Taiping Zhen - Shaoguan Shi
In Unit One Teachers and Learners, I learned about the qualities that make a good teacher and a good learner. I learned the importance of a teacher being able to nourish and inspire these qualities in learners to keep them motivated. This made me reflect of all my previous teachers and professors: which classes I enjoyed the most, and which ones I enjoyed the least and why. The most common reason I found for enjoying a class was that the teacher identified with the learners, listened to them, and cared about their growth. The most common reason why I disliked a class was the feeling that the teacher couldn?t relate to the students and treated everything and everyone systematically. I can identify the various roles a teacher must take on in the classroom and how to apply them to class activities. I am now familiar with the major differences between Adult learners and young learners and how they may approach a class. You may have to use different methods to get the best experience out of a class of children versus teenagers, or adults. I am aware now of the general language levels and how they can help me identify a learner or class?s level. Overall, I feel this unit has helped me understand the factors a teacher has to take into consideration before jumping into any class. The better idea a teacher has of their learners, the better they will be able to help them grow. Even within a specific age group of learners, their skill levels may vary. All of these factors are important in being able to help the learners succeed.
