This last unit takes a look at the most common situations that can create issues in the class room. One of those issues can be the first lesson. Whether the it is a new or already existing group, the teacher need to establish rapport, and set the ground rules of the class room. It is important in that first class that the teacher will predispose the students and get their attention. There are few techniques to warm up the begging a teacher can use, such as playing games like hangman, pictionary, tongue twisters, etc. The level of the individual students has to be taken in consideration by the teacher as well. Not all students will have the same language level, so a teacher can adapt the studying material, different tasks, or pair stronger with weaker students to aim the development of all students. Another problematic situation can be the size of the class. If the class is big, it might be hard for the teacher to control the students and what they do, if they hear well, if they have any need of assistance, etc. On the other hand, the temptation for the students to use their native language during class is huge. Often students will try to get away with it especially if they know that the teacher understands it. That is why it is important to encourage the use of English, even it is take more time to explain something to the students and to always reply in English as well. Difficulties with listening is another issue that may occur during class. It is important to be patient and change the activity if you see the students are struggling.
