Teach English in Pingtian Zhen - Shaoguan Shi
This is a unit dedicated for a great explanation of the different types of past tenses in English Language, moreover the unit also describes the different methodologies which a TEFL teacher may apply within a classroom. The explanation is simple and easy to understand, providing a refreshing review of the past tenses. There is the past continuous form which is used for an action of gradual development that happened in the past without a specific time. There is a past simple form which is to describe a specific past given time, or it can be used for an action that definitely happened in the past. The past perfect form is used to describe something that happened before the other past action. Finally, it explains the Past perfect continuous form which is used to describe something that happened around a time in the past with longer continuous action until a certain moment in the past. As for ways to teach the past tenses, we can group the students in pairs or in a bigger group, hand out the pictures we prepared previously, and ask them to describe the actions of each picture. We might as well ask the students to narrate the passages of the pictures in past tense and connect all the sentences into a story. Moreover, we can provide several questions with different form of past tenses and ask the students to go around the classroom finding out the answer for these questions. There are more activities given as examples to build up a perfect teaching program for past tenses in this unit, and those activities are just wonderful to add up for my current teaching.
