Using teaching aids and equipment is an excellent way to engage the students and increase their attention to the lesson. There are a variety of things that can be used. From the standard white board (chalkboards are not as popular) to the more technology savvy interactive whiteboards (obviously expensive and require the teacher to train themselves on the board). But equipment and teaching aids don't have to be expensive. Overhead projectors are a good piece of equipment as it has many benefits to teacher's preparation but also in holding students attention. One of the most useful pieces of equipment for an EFL class is the use of the cassette recorder, although CD players and videos (even smartphones) are also good tools. The good old dictionary is the most useful tool for students, whether it be in book form or online. Every class should have a dictionary in it. ***** As a side note**** ?. I was having keyboard problems when I took the chapter 16 test and was not able to write my reflection due to having to escape the test before I had a chance to review. So I would like to include a brief summary of what I learned in Chapter 16, here. Understanding the conditionals (Zero/First/Second/Third/Mixed) and their teaching ideas was easy. What I found difficult in this lesson was the way the explanation of reported speech and direct speech was presented in the written material as well as the course video. I was having a hard time following. I will go back to that chapter and the video for further studying in order to get a better grasp of it.
