Unit 8 encompasses the seven most commonly used future tenses, which are: the future simple, future perfect, future perfect continuous, future continuous, present simple, present continuous, and be going + infinitive tenses. While the present simple and present continuous tenses are generally used as present tenses, they also have future applications. Here is a breakdown of the seven featured future tenses from Unit 8. 1. The future simple tense is used for promises, predictions that aren't based on present evidence, future facts and certainties, assumptions, threats, and spontaneous decisions. 2. The future perfect tense is used to say that something will have been completed or achieved by a certain time in the future. 3. The future perfect continuous tense is used to say how long something will have continued by a certain time. 4. The future continuous tense is used to refer to future events that are fixed or decided (without suggesting personal intention), to say that something will be in progress at a particular moment in the future, to say what we think or guess might be happening in the present, and to enquire about other people's plans (but no to influence the listener's intentions). 5. The present simple tense is used to suggest a more impersonal tone, to suggest a more formal situation, and for schedules and timetables. 6. The present continuous tense is used for definite arrangements, and for decisions and plans without a time frame. 7.
