This unit deals with some of the most common problem situations that may arise in the classroom and give practical solutions that can help in providing answers to the problems. When teaching a class for the very first time, it is very important to establish a rapport with the students and to set the tone for the remainder of the course. Usually these classes can fall into two categories, firstly, a new group where none of the students know each other, not only must the teacher establish rapport with the students, but also, the students need to become comfortable with each other. The second group is an existing group where the students already know each other and rapport between them have been established. There are a number of \"warmers\" that can be used to motivate and make the class fun for the students and to get them using English, games such as Hangman, Pictionary and memory games. Other problems that may arise are different levels of ability within the same class , large classes, the use of the students native language in a monolingual class, reluctant students, and difficulties with listening texts. All these problems have to be handled differently but can be overcome ensuring classes run smoothly and that the students successfully enjoy learning English. Throughout this course I have learnt many useful facts about the English language, many techniques to ensure both the students and myself enjoy the classroom experience, ways to make sure I am a competent and confident teacher and I hope I can successfully make a career out of teaching English overseas.
