Teach English in Fengcheng Jiedao - Shaoguan Shi
After reading Unit 16 on ?Conditionals & Reported Speech?, I feel I learned a lot more than what I already knew on conditionals sentences, and now have a clearer idea on how to differentiate them and their use according to situations. Unit 16, emphasizes on each conditional form and usage, which I found great as it can easily be confusing. Such as for example between the zero conditional and first conditional with - Zero Conditional = If/When + Present Tense, Present Tense - First Conditional = If + Present Simple, Will Both look similar in structure, however we must not confuse the present tense usage (which differs) in each of the two. Furthermore, extra attention should also be taken when using the second conditional and mixed conditional, as these two conditionals are also very similar in structure: - Second Conditional = If + Past Simple, would/ could/ might + base form - Mixed Conditional = If + Past Perfect, would + base form Additionally, the variety of teaching ideas for conditionals suggested in unit 16, are quite original and creative as well, I do not think I would have come up with so many ideas myself, for potential classroom exercises. As regards to the section of unit 16 on ?Reported Speech & Direct Speech?, I also found very useful the emphasize that was made on the changing tenses when a conversation is reported, it is an important fact about reported speeches, that can be quite tricky to master at the beginning for EFL learners. As an example of changing tense: (Direct Speech) Present Simple --> (Reported Speech) Past Simple
