The focus of this unit was on lesson planning. Lesson planning is useful for structuring lessons, as well as making sure the class is progressing according to schedule. A lesson plan can also be used as a way to keep track of what has been done in each class for future reference. Lessons plans are flexible, and ultimately it is up to the individual to decide what works best for them. In general though, plans should be kept simple and structured. A few things to include are the lesson objective, the theme of the lesson, any necessary materials, an estimate of timing, and the date. The procedure, or what will be done in order to achieve the lesson objective, is also useful to include. It's important to keep in mind that a lesson plan should not inhibit flexibility in the classroom, as changes may need to be made on the spot depending on how each individual lesson progresses. The lesson plan is a guide, and should be used as such. After a lesson has been completed, it can be beneficial to take some time to reflect on the quality of the lesson. By making note of any problems that arose, or any misunderstandings that came about, future lessons can be improved. When planning a sequence of lessons, it's important to be flexible, and make changes as needed during the entire span of the scheduled lessons. In order to help students maintain their focus, goals should be included at various points. Revision of past material will need to be done in order to ensure retention. The activities and lessons should ideally incorporate all of the different skills involved in language usage.
