Teach English in DengfAng Zhen - Shaoguan Shi
Classroom management is a large part of the teaching profession. Each teacher must decide how to conduct their classroom, within the parameters of the school's code of conduct, based on student's age, classroom size, their individual personalities and determination, as well as the available space. How the teacher seats their class, approaches lesson (too much or too little teacher talk time), and executes correction for their students greatly affects the classroom rapport and therefore the effectiveness of English learning. Teachers who are consistently dominating in the classroom generally have students who are shy, timid and less likely to speak up in class discussion, generally leading to poor language performance and learning, but teachers who are too inferior in their position (always seated, giving only group work with little to no interaction) often have poorly behaved students with little to no discipline; both of these extremes lead to poor language learning environments, so the appropriate classroom is somewhere in the middle. Personally, I like the idea of a horseshoe classroom seating arrangement so that all students are 'up front' and can be interactive with each lesson as they can all see the teacher and the other students. Also, I think it is important to come to each lesson prepared with a balanced mix of student on student work as well as teaching talking to expose students to the correct form and pronunciation of English. As a teacher my main goal would be to have the respect and care of my students, with this there can be much success in the classroom.
