To manage a class,the teacher should have the skills of organising and managing the class,be friendly,have a relaxed manner and be able to maintain discipline. For learning to be effective,the teacher must be flexible,inspired confidence in the students.A teacher should know when to be firm,and when to leave the students alone. A good eye contact,gestures and the teacher,s voice is essential to estabish good rapport with the students. Grouping students,pairwork are all appropriate and each has its own place in the classroom.It can create a sense of belonging in the group,pairwork increases student,s talk time. A teacher can arrange the class in orderly rows, circles and horseshoes,separate tables,giving a clear view of all the students and effective learning. The teacher talk time should be put to minimun.The teacher should pay attention to all the students and include them equally in any activity. The teacher should give instructions to students in a simple language and be consistent.When you give instructions,ask the students to explain back to you. I learned that names of students should be used at the end of the question not at the start. Also,pairwork increases opportunity for students talking time and student to student interaction.
