This unit gave me an overview of what a good teacher should be, what a good student should look like, and what constitutes a good learning environment. In order to have a positive learning outcome there needs to be the following things present. A teacher should be kind, considerate, and non judgmental. They should want to inspire, motivate and encourage their students to learn. They should be engaging and be willing to move through the roles of a good teacher; from an organizer to a tutor and know when the situation needs it. In turn, the students, depending on their age, will come to the class will different motivators; travel, work opportunities, friendships and the desire to learn English but they also need to come as a good learner. They need to be unafraid to ask questions, be willing to learn, accept correction, and be willing to listen to their teacher as well as their classmates. As a teacher, the students may come to you with different life experiences, at different ages ( from young learner, prepubertal post puberty, to adult supervision with different motivation, having anxiety or nervousness but the goal is to assist them through the stages of learning to have their comprehension, language accuracy, and grammar be consistent and knowledgeable. No matter if they start as a beginner, with no skils in the language, to intermediate where they have a good understanding of the language and their accuracy is better or they are advanced and they want to make their skills even better, all students deserve the same respect, compassion, time and concern when it comes to teaching.
