This unit was about the myriad of materials that can be used to make class more engaging or interesting. All classrooms and schools will have a variety of materials available for teachers and students to use, as well as limits or rules concerning making original materials to supplement lessons. This unit contained an extensive list of suggested texts and websites that can make classes more interesting. One very important thing to keep in mind is all schools will be varied, you cannot rely on always having certain technical features or that all students of a certain age will find supplementary materials equally interesting. Any lesson using the internet or other tech should have a backup just in case there is a problem. Teaching aids and resources are for both student and teacher benefit. Sometimes tech in the classroom can decrease prep time needed by the teacher, or using a computer in class can open up the wonders of the internet and readily make English more interesting and relevant. When I first became an EFL teacher in Japan, I was given minimal training and thrown into the classroom. I used the internet constantly to get ideas for making the textbook and curriculum more interesting. Some exercises I learned from the internet I have used regularly at any level. This year, I even adapted an Elementary school listening activity to a drill I used for my university students. My university students laughed a lot, then tried the activity, realized it was challenging, then both focused on the goal of the drill, while laughing at the ridiculous scoring system that was designed to entertain young learners.
