This unit shows that students can be taught through various mediums. The teacher can teach through Authentic Materials, which consists of Newspaper Clips, Conversations, Magazines, Films, etc where it is real, therefore more interesting and motivating for the students. The students also gain confidence and develop interest in such type of materials.These materials are not graded for level. The teacher can create materials according to the specific needs of the students. These can be graded to the level of the students. These materials can include Gap fill, pictures, crosswords,etc. The teacher can also teach the students through course books which includes a set of materials like workbook, student's book, CD,etc. The course books are generally tried and tested, offers continuity and progression, provides mix of skills,less time consuming as compared to creating materials. It also have several disadvantages, like it does not always cater to specific needs of the each student, can be outdated, predictable,etc The teacher should be able to decide what topics can be omitted if they are not beneficial to the students. They should replace those topics with other relevant and similar materials. The teacher should provide supplementary materials to the students for more practice of the language and the teacher should not teach in a conventional way, he/she should use his/her own way of teaching the language. A course book can be analyzed on its price, availability, methodology, Skills, Difficulty, Syllabus or the supplementary materials provided with it. In this way, the teacher can maximize the use of course books.
