In conclusion, this units covers some essential grammars involving modal verbs and passive voice, relative clauses and phrasal verbs. Modal verbs can express different ideas in sentences, like meanings of obligation, permission, advice and so on. Different modal auxiliary verbs are often used to express different degrees of formality. They are also commonly used to convey different degrees of possibility. We need to know clearly the usages of different modal verbs and how they change in forms in different tenses. For passive voice, when we change a sentence from active voice to passive voice, the tense remains the same and the tense is indicated by the verb \"be\". When the performer is not known or unimportant, the sentence will be in passive voice. For relative clauses, there are two categories: defining and non-defining. The information in defining clauses is essential to the meaning of sentences and it often implies something, whereas the information in non-defining clauses is not essential to the meaning of sentences and the basic information of the whole sentence remains the same even if the non-defining clause is removed. The commas are very critical for non-defining clauses. In terms of phrasal verbs, they are divided into three categories: intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable. We need to know where we can put relative nouns and relative pronouns which are objects of phrasal verbs in sentences. From this unit, I learn that I can devise some role-play activities in activate phases of modal verbs lessons and also know how to make the complicated grammatical knowledge easier to let students know and practice.
