This unit is on different types of tests that students might have to take and different ways how to evaluate students progress and their language level. There are three main ways to check your students knowledge and progress, they are tutorials, student evaluations and tests. Tutorials are when the teacher and students discuss what they have learned and the aim of the lesson. There often wont be time for this after every single class however it might be a good idea to have a tutorial at the end of every week if time allows. Student evaluations allows the students to give feedback to the teacher about what they are learning, if they enjoy the class, they think they have an even balance of learning reading, writing, listening and speaking. If the material being taught is too easy for them or too difficult etc. Then there are tests. Tests are used for seeing if the student understands the material being taught, these tests are called progress tests which are given to the students quite frequently. Tests are also used to evaluate the language level of the students. There are placement tests which help the teachers know which level to place the student in and there are also diagnostic tests are often done at the beginning of a course to allow the teacher to figure out what the students already know and need help with. Some teachers may not agree with giving the students tests as they believe they can see the progress of their students as they are often with them several times a week. However most schools require tests as to have a record of the students progress and some students may like taking tests as it allows them to see their own progress.
