Teach English in Houzhai Zhen - Shantou Shi
It is important to provide activities to teach students receptive skill such as listening and reading, but also to provided activities for speaking and writing, which is considered as productive skills as well. For improvement of speaking, accuracy and fluency activities both are required to be provided. Accuracy based activities are more controlled and guided such as drilling (listening and repeating what teacher provides), prompting with pre-planned question and answer, model dialogues, and guided role-play. Whereas Fluency based activities are more creative: Free role-play, discussions, information gap, debates, simulations, and communication games. For the reason of lack of confidence, interest, and learning experience, or fear of making mistakes, there might be students who hesitate to speak in classes. However, since more students practice, more they improve, teacher must try to help them overcome and encourage them to speak. To encourage students, teachers can make pair-work, group-work to reduce the stress of speaking to a large number of people; teachers can provide more controlled and guided practices so that students feel less stress about making mistakes. Writing is quite different from speaking. In spite of the differences between those, there are similar at the point that they are both producing and expressing way of communication; and grammars and vocabulary should be checked. However, when teaching writing, teachers have to consider that students are having right spelling, lay out and punctuation. Games are the most fun and favored way of learning throughout generations. It can facilitate students? learning very effectively as well.
