Unit 11 talked about teaching receptive skills. there are four receptive skills in any language we're learning. Reading and listening, and speaking and writing there are all equal. Want to comes to reading and listening there are some categories that we divide them into regarding the motive of the action. There's reading on purpose and for entertainment. If we read for a purpose we want to gain something from the reading. We use reading or listening for a purpose usually when it comes to listening or reading through some instructions etc. It is different from reading for entertainment which is usually more enjoyable. When we read or listen we can process them differently regarding the way we read it. We can use predictive skills when reading it or just scann it - we do it to for example find a football result. We can also use skimming skills where we just want to get a general understanding of the content however if we want to get a detailed information we will have to be more focused on the information. To prevent the confusion with teaching vocabulary - there's one way we should get used to which is pre-teaching the vocabulary we want to teach so students will be able to understand the context better afterwards. We should keep in mind careful selection of the text we are about to read with the students. Regarding the skills of the students. To get them want to know the language, there are various types of topics we can make our students interested about. After we make sure they understand the part of speech clearly, it is important to practice with some tasks such as reading activities, games etc. What we want is to activate what we just taught.
