In this lesson, I learned about evaluation and testing. There are a few ways to do this. It can be done through tutorials, evaluation by fellow students, and tests. Tutorials are used as a group, mainly because there usually isn?t any time to do this with each individual student, and are meant for reviewing all the work done up to that point, talking about the goals of lessons, and how well the students are doing thus far. Evaluation by students is good for the teacher so they know if the students feel that the coarse is too easy, too hard, they are or aren?t learning enough grammar and vocab, etc. There are many kinds of tests that can be distributed to students. Placement tests are designed to let the teacher place students in classes who have similar language abilities as them. These are usually multiple choice and test knowledge of grammar and vocab and can include oral tests as well. Progress tests are exactly what they are called. They are given throughout the year to assess how well the students have progressed in their English abilities. They only cover what has already been taught, nothing that hasn?t. Diagnostic tests are like placement tests, but can be more extensive and in depth. They?re meant to see what students already know at the start of a course and assist teacher in planning their lessons. Practice tests are used to help prepare students for external exams and are usually in the same format as the exam they are being used to prepare for. General exams include the TOEFL, IELTS, and TOEIC. Cambridge assessments include the UK OCR examinations board and ESOL. General English assessments include the KET, PET, FCE,CAE, and CPE.
