Teach English in Binhai Jiedao - Shantou Shi
Unit 19 discusses special groups that TEFL teachers may teach. The first group to be discussed was beginners. There are actually 5 different types of beginners. Learning about the different types of beginners made me realize that this information would've been nice to have earlier in the course. This could've helped me greatly in lesson plan activities. The methods and techniques that I personally will need to work on is speaking slowly and simply. Teaching individual students has one major drawback and that is the lack of classroom dynamics. However, being able to gear a lesson to 1 particular students needs and want is much easier than trying to teach mixed levels at the same time. Teaching children can be extremely fun and exhausting at the same. Trying to keep their attention and not letting the kids get bored would be a big challenge. Teaching Business English can be done individually, in a company group or in a school group. The age range of the clients could vary greatly. The clients may be tired after a day at work making it hard for them to concentrate. The teacher needs to be aware of group dynamics especially if the students hold different levels of positions. The positive point about a multilingual class is for the students to be able to communicate with one another they must use English. The positive of teaching a monolingual class is there will be common difficulties among the students and you can use their culture as a way to peak interest. In these types of classes you don't need to worry too much if they revert to their L1. However, when teaching young learners it's best to only speak English and not let them you know you can speak or understand their L1.
