Teach English in Youyilu Jiedao - Shanghai Shi
Apart from getting a basic but very practical knowledge of the most important points of english grammar and phonetics, I have also learnt a lot of teaching techniques and skills that will be indispensable if I decide to progress my career in teaching. I have received several ideas on how to plan lessons, how to deal with various situations within the classroom effectively and what activities would work well for students of different levels, ages and requirements. However, all this is just in theory, and real teaching situations can always bring about issues that have never had to be dealt with before, require quick and appropriate reactions and resourceful solutions on behalf of the teacher. Whether I would be able to cope with these and use all the knowledge that I have learnt during this course effectively and whether I would make a good teacher at all can only be found out if I get into action. Unfortunately, due to work commitments, I have not had the opportunity yet to do any volunteering in a language teaching setting so my primarily plan for the near future is to find a place where I can shadow a teacher. This way I might be able to gain some more confidence too (which is not possible sitting behind the screen) and get a proper insight into real teaching to see if I still like it so much that I want to follow this path. Overall, I have received a good deal from this course, have learnt a lot, it has provided me with useful skills and a lot of practical tips that can hopefully be applied in the classroom once I start teaching. It has definitely been a great experience.
