I've found the course to be invaluable. The content was excellent and the feedback was always very helpful. I entered this course with no formal study relating to teaching english as a foreign language. Now at the end, as I begin teaching my first lessons, I feel like I have a pretty solid foundation from which to learn and a strong idea how to go about teaching. I found the grammar units to be very useful. I had forgotten or never learnt many of the grammatical terms but now I can articulate and explain the different tenses and parts of speech. I also really liked the lesson planning and found this to be very useful. In the absence of live teaching practice this was the next best thing. In the last couple of weeks I've given my first lessons and I've now put this into action. I've planned my first lessons using the basic ESA structure and found this to be a very solid and effective structure. Although the timing of my first lessons was off (the students asked more questions and we discussed answers more than anticipated) the structure held me in good stead. I can already begin to see the differences of teaching an individual and a group. I initially had an individual student and now have 3 students. Although this is a small group it does change the dynamic. I've had to adjust and have used, to good effect, the advice and suggestions in Unit 19. I found the CD lesson to be very instructive too. It's as useful seeing a poorly instructed lesson as it is seeing an effective one. I also went back to review the second lesson on the CD and watching this again, ahead of giving my own first lesson, was very useful. Overall the course has given me the knowledge, tools and confidence to enter the classroom and begin teaching right from Day 1. As I begin teaching I can see that I will continue to receive benefit from the material and content in the course. I'm sure I will be referring back to course material frequently as practical examples arise in my teaching.
