Teach English in Luodian Zhen - Shanghai Shi
The TEFL course has been extremely helpful to me for many reasons. The course has been helpful in the areas of identifying student's specific needs, creating effective lesson plans for different skill levels, ideas for activities or exercises to implement into the lessons, spelling out the different past, present and future tenses, and testing students initially to asses skill level and continuing to test students to view progress. The ability to identify specific needs will allow me as the teacher to ensure that students are retaining presented information. I believe it will also allow me to establish rapport with students when they can see that I care about their progress learning the language. Implementing effective lesson plans is so crucial for a class because they engage the students to motivate them to learn and concentrate during the study part of the lesson. If the students are able to concentrate well on material presented during the study phase, whatever activities I will have them do during the activate stage will go much smoother, leading to less frustration by the students. Reviewing the past, present and future tenses was more helpful for me because being a native speaker, the tenses are not always presented in a way that they were in the course. Having an enhanced understanding of the tenses is beneficial for both myself and my students I will be teaching. Finally, creating surveys or questionnaires that test students both initially and to track progress will be used in my classroom (or with private tutoring) in order to make sure the students are not only learning the new information, but also retaining it. The progress tests are so useful because it makes the students go back to one month ago, two months ago, etc. to see if they accurately they remember the lessons.
