I have gained a lot from this course. Perhaps the most valuable lessons I have learned are the benefits of lesson planning, the different types of lessons (Patchwork, ESA, etc) and ways to encourage student participation. Also, I have learned how to effectively teach grammar and how to effectively use teaching aides. As a volunteer ESL teacher, I have already had the opportunity to put what I have learned to practice. Prior to taking this certification course, I was unaware of how to incorporate games and other fun activities into the course. Additionally, I did not know how to effectively teach grammar or the importance and benefits of lesson planning. I have incorporated a variety of the skills that I have learned into my classroom and I feel that it has made me a better teacher. Also, I will be able to utilize what Ive learned in this course in the future. My career goal is to teach english to non native speakers. I have recently accepted a position teaching english in china. I am confident that I will be able to utilize what Ive learned in this course throughout my professional life. As I become a more experienced teacher, I will be able to build upon what Ive learned.
