This unit was a real eye opener for me, it really shows just how challenging some elements of learning english are. When a native speaker reads a text, we take for granted that we automatically know how to use the correct intonation, which syllables to stress and how the words are correctly pronounced. Native speakers are able to pronounce words properly without even thinking about it, because we automatically know which variant of , for example, \"where/wear\" is correct, depending on context. It is important for teachers to be aware of this, and to make sure they know the phonemic symbols so they can use them as an aid for the students.
