The content of Lesson 14 is Course books and Lesson Materials. The use of authentic and created materials is emphasised. The advantages and disadvantages of course books are highlighted, along with guidelines for selection and best use of a course book, including four different options for course book use - omit, replace, supplement and adapt. I feel that it will be important for a teacher beginning with an ESOL class to have the security of a suitable course book, but just as important, taking heed to the guidance of this ITTT material, to also use authentic and created materials to supplement, adapt and replace the course book material.
