The final unit for this course was entitled \"Troubleshooting\". This encompassed both the common problem situations as well as suggestions for how to assist an instructor through difficulties within teaching ESL. There were two areas I found to be most helpful. First, the suggestions for how to effectively teach multi-level students within a classroom was very useful and practical. In my teaching experiences, even outside the ESL spectrum, I have found that EVERY class has students at different learning levels & it is a necessity to develop ideas and lessons that can reach ALL students. The idea of having stronger level-learners work with weaker level-learners is highly effective because it challenges the higher to process & breakdown how they learned it as well as re-explaining to the lower. Also, most students are more responsive to learning from their peers versus their teacher. Secondly, I think the native language use section was pertinent as well. It would be a difficult task to allow ESL students to still know that their native tongue is valuable, yet encouraging them to incorporate their new language as a benefit to their future success!
