Teach English in Pingnan Zhen - Qinzhou Shi
This unit goes over possible lesson plans which tackle on efficient methods of teaching new vocabulary and grammar structures to new, young learners. For example, the basic ESA method: engage, study, and activate. This section dives into possible activities to implement when doing the engage phase. For example, when teaching new vocabulary, during the engage phase, one can use pictures, mimes and actions, or even show a powerpoint of different usages of that vocabulary around the world to gain the students interest. The Study portion can use crossword sheets, gap-filling exercises, pronunciation exercises with pairs. Lastly the Activate phase could include activities such as role-play, pair discussions, or board games. For the grammar portion, students need to learn the meaning, usage, patterns it follows, and its variations. After going over these points, then one can follow games, similar if not the same as those previously stated. The teaching language function of this chapter basically discusses how to bring the (above) two topics together. It goes over variations to the ESA method, such as the patchwork method, to basically use the language.
