An effective teacher must develop a good understanding of the student's progress and their ability to learn. Making appropriate and relevant assessments may be more difficult than it seems. Should we as teachers, assess the students in order for them to pass the grade level or assess their knowledge needed for the real world? I feel that some of the standardized tests are generalizing questions that are irrelevant. We are told as teachers to teach students to understand the content and critically think about the questions asked. We were told to have an end goal before we plan our lessons. Plan the lessons with the end in mind! It's harder than it looks. Basically, we are trying to drill students into being able to understand the content by repetitive testing skills. Because we want the students to succeed academically, we have to keep in mind how the state's standardized tests are holding the teachers accountable for the students' learning progress. I knew their were many different types of assessments and are pretty familiar with it. I believe we should conduct shorter assessments instead of a whole unit test or longer examinations for the student.
